This museum exhibits a large and comprehensive collection contemporary Arab art. Artistic skills and trends are prevalent with many pieces having styles that come directly from traditional Arabic techniques. The works range from the 1840s to the present day and all Arab countries are represented

MUSEUM OF ISLAMIC HISTORY

The Museum of Islamic Arts is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Doha. The museum features a priceless collection of masterpieces and treasures dating from 7th to 19th century Islamic cultures. In addition to the gallery space the museum has a library, restaurant, hanging gardens and a water garden with fountains. The building was designed by the famous architect I. M. Pei (Louvre Museum Pyramid and Washington DC National Gallery of Art).

FANAR ISLAMIC CENTER

The Islamic Culture Center and mosque are housed in the iconic spiral building off the Corniche. In addition to the mosque it also includes a department store and a cultural center with a permanent exhibition of Islamic teachings and traditions. Guided tours are available by appointment.

IMAM MUHAMMAD IBN ABDUL WAHHAB MOSQUE

Named after a famous Muslim scholar from the 18th century this beautiful landmark opened in December 2011 and is the largest mosque in Qatar with a capacity of over 10,000 people. The mosque is not open to non-Muslims.

KATARA CULTURAL VILLAGE

Katara has state of the art venues such as theatres, libraries, art galleries, an amphitheater, a beachfront promenade, casual and fine dining restaurants and coffee shops. Its ambition is to acknowledge and promote artistic heritage and traditions from diverse cultures. The Katara is home to the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Qatar Fine Arts Society, Visual Art Center, Qatar Photographic Society, Childhood Cultural Center, Theatre Society, Qatar Music Academy and the famous Tribeca Film Festival.

AL-CORNICHE

The iconic Corniche stretches 7 kilometers from the Museum of Islamic Arts all the way downtown to Dafna. Walking along the bay is very popular in Doha and many locals and expatriates gather here for casual rest and recreation. The parks and grassy areas along the shore are the best place to enjoy spectacular views of the city’s modern skyline on one side and the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf on the other.

Doha enjoys some of the best shopping in the region with several modern malls including Doha Festival City, Villagio, City Center, Landmark and many others that offer international brand retailers, restaurants and cafes, children’s entertainment centers and movie theaters.

SOUQ WAQIF

The Souq Waqif is Doha’s vibrant social hub and is a popular destination, coffee, light snacks and an abundance of traditional Qatari souvenirs. Traders in the labyrinthine alleys sell everything from spices to pashminas. The numerous restaurants feature all types of authentic Arabic cuisine where Qataris and expatriates sit in the open-air cafes and enjoy watching passersby. Some restaurants stay open late into the night.

DOHA GOLF CLUB

Doha Golf Club boasts an 18-hole Championship Course, a 9-hole Academy Course, a huge driving range and putting green, 8 artificial lakes, graceful landscaping and a beautiful clubhouse designed in traditional Arabic style. Home to PGA European Tour event Qatar Masters.

DOHA ZOO

Doha’s Municipal Zoo is situated on the outskirts of Doha, about half an hour’s drive from the town center. The Zoo has an extensive collection of wildlife from around the globe. There are plenty of shaded viewing areas as well as enhanced playing facilities for children. The mini zoo at Al Khor Family Park has emerged as major destination for children where they can interact with their favourite animals and birds.
